Follow the Roasterie Bride: Hilary (Part 1)

Coffee and weddings may not seem to go hand-in-hand at first, but here at The Roasterie, we sure think they make the perfect match!  As a matter of fact, our newly opened Kansas City event space, The Bean Hangar, has become a go-to venue for brides from near and far.  One of these brides is Hilary Saskin (soon to be Mrs. Embry).

The Bride’s Backstory:

Hilary met her groom, James (Jim) Embry through friends when she moved from Las Vegas to Kansas City nearly 6 and a half years ago.  The couple’s entire engagement was Kansas City-themed: the ring was purchased at Tivol, the engagement happened at The Webster House and engagement pictures were taken at Loose Park.  To keep the Kansas City vibe alive, Hilary and Jim are planning a romantic, nondenominational ceremony and reception at The Roasterie’s Bean Hangar event space.

Hilary’s Bean Hangar Dreams

Planning a wedding at a local coffee-centered venue certainly isn’t traditional–but it’s exactly what Hilary had in mind.

“I knew nothing about the Roasterie event space until Jim and I were along Southwest Boulevard eating at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants,” she explains. “I saw the plane on top of the building and loved it.  I joked with Jim about ‘getting married in the building with the plane’.”

“Then I saw The Roasterie at a bridal show,” she continues. “I booked an event space appointment right then and there.  Once I saw the space, I knew it was perfect.  It was the only event space even I looked at.”

Hilary and Jennifer Transform The Bean Hangar

What attracted Hilary to The Bean Hangar was its ability to transform to fit any event.

“The event space is different and cool.  I can have a very traditional wedding and the contrast works great,” she says.

Jennifer Robinson, The Roasterie’s event planner extraordinaire, is working with Hilary to make sure that her entire day is picture-perfect.  The two are staging for a formal event with romantic twinkling lights, candles, blush/champagne/gold colors, a massive dance floor and Roasterie touches here and there.

(A massive dance floor?  That’s right!  The Bean Hangar can fit up to 400 people with tables in the main room and a dance floor with lounge and DJ on the factory floor.)

When asked why she did not hire a wedding planner, Hilary laughed and said, “Because Jennifer comes with the space!  She’s my day-of coordinator and has already helped so much.  She has so many great ideas.  I never even thought about hiring a wedding planner.  I’ve already met with Jennifer six times!”

Small Roasterie Touches

What “Roasterie touches” are being incorporated into Hilary’s wedding?  The details will be subtle…but leave a lasting impression on guests. For starters, Hilary and Jim will be creating their own custom coffee blend to serve with cake during the wedding.  For the wedding favors, Hilary is using Roasterie retro lunchpails and filling them with the couple’s custom blend and an engagement photo.
