Coffee Shops Use LED Lighting to Go Green

Go green.

We’ve all heard this phrase many times.  And everyone seems to be embracing the environmental initiative.  From giant superstores like Walmart to the entire construction industry, from teaching children about recycling at a young age to purchasing energy-efficient appliances for our homes—everyone seems to be doing their part to decrease their carbon footprint.

And coffee shops are no different.  Many coffee shops, cafés and coffeehouses from around the world are cutting energy usage in a variety of different ways.  One of the most popular ways to conserve energy in a coffee shop is by installing LED lighting.

According to the Specialty Coffee Association of America, if 20,000 cafes in the United States replaced only one light bulb with a CFL or LED light, we could avoid over 7.9 million pounds of CO emissions in one year (that’s the equivalent of taking 706 passenger vehicles off the road for one year!).  In turn, this would save the industry $677,800.

With stats like these, we knew we had to jump on the LED bandwagon.  That’s why when we built our brand new Roasterie Café on Southwest Boulevard, we made sure to incorporate LED lighting.  In order to make this a reality, we worked with Eiko, a great local Kansas City company that specializes in green lighting.   Together with Eiko and WL Cassell (our engineers for the café), we were able to incorporate LED lights throughout the entire café area.

We’re not just providing great coffee, we’re also going green!  Come by The Roasterie café not only to enjoy our delicious coffee concoctions, but to check out our LED lighting—just one of the many steps we’re taking to help reduce our carbon footprint!
